August 25, 1925Death of Mrs. Hoovler
Esther Anna Hoovler was born May 16, 1846 in Mercer County, Penn. At the age of 11 years she came with her parents to Iowa, they settling on a farm north of Nashville, where she grew to young womanhood. She was united in marriage to Edward Hoovler in Jackson county, Nov. 26, 1874, and to this union were born three children, C. A. of Davenport, Iowa, Ella and Francis M. Loth of whom preceded her in death.
After marriage she and her husband settled on a farm about twelve miles northeast of Maquoketa where the death of her husband in 1887 left her a widow with their three small children. She continued to reside there caring for the farm with the help of her family until about five years ago when she moved to this city where she has since made her home. She was untiring in devotion to her family and the fact that she kept the farm and cared for her children during all the pioneer years of life, bespeak better than anything else, her true character.
Early in life she accepted Christ as her Savior, united with the Baptist church and in spite of all the hardships she maintained her Christian experience and was at the time of her death a member of the Maquoketa Baptist church. She leaves to mourn her loss her son, C. A. Hoovler of Davenport, Mrs. Addie Hoovler, widow of Francis M., and M. A. Butterworth, former husband of Ella, nine grandchildren, two brothers, Calvin Doty of St. Clair; Miss E. H. Doty of Sage, Idaho, and one sister, Mrs. Ellen Wilson of Lynn Haven, Fla, besides. She passed away at her home on Vermont street, August 20, 1925, aged 79 years, 3 months and 4 days.
Funeral services were held from her late residence Saturday afternoon with her pastor, Rev. S. R. Dunlop in charge, assisted by Rev. F. C. Worcester. Interment took place in Union Center cemetery by the side of her late husband.
