April 11, 1941Milton S. Bowling Funeral Services Held Tuesday
Funeral services for Milton S. Bowling, 87, who passed away Saturday noon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter Dutton, near Iron Hill, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the East Iron Hill church with Rev. H. D. Green officiating. Pallbearers were Amos Rorah, Emery Fuller, John Flathers, Edward Binns, Oliver Parmer and Emery Dutton. Interment was made in the Iron Hill cemetery.
Milton S. Bowling, son of Franklin and Jane Bowling, was born at Iron Hill, Jackson county, Iowa, on January 9, 1854. On August 22, 1877, he was united in marriage to Clara Johnson of Brandon township, who preceded him in death on May 23, 1940. To this union were born two children, Isaac M. Bowling of Fulton and Mrs. Walter Dutton of Iron Hill, with whom he made his home since the death of his wife. With the children he leaves to mourn his loss two sisters, Miss Martha Bowling and Mrs. Nettie Willison, besides other relatives and a host of friends. Seven brothers and sisters preceded in him death.
Mr. Bowling had lived his entire life at Iron Hill having passed away on the same farm on which he was born. He well knew the privations of pioneer days. His life was filled with duties, pleasures and sorrow and with each of these he was always found in his place and doing his best having served his community in an official capacity for many years. No task was too great for him to do for his family.
Six years ago he was deprived of the sight of both eyes and since that time he has borne his affliction with the same courageous spirit that has been characteristic of his whole life and with such patience as few people possess. For sometime he has been in failing health and all that loving hands and medical skill could do was done. But the Master called at the noon hour on last Saturday and he passed peacefully away to be with his loved ones gone before. This closes the chapter of the life of a loving father, good neighbor and friend.
