Elizabeth Vanpelt, daughter of Job and Charity Vanpelt, was born June 25, 1844 in a town of Ohio. The family came to Iowa when Elizabeth was four years of age.
In 1861 when she was 17 years of age, she united with the Reformed Church. September 23, 1866, she was married to William H. Watters at Otter Creek. To them were born 13 children, all of whom are living, excepting one daughter, Mrs. Henry Howell, and a son Charles Watters.
The surviving members of the family are the husband and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Lewis Hesse of Holcombe, Wis.; Mrs. Melvin Isbell, Walcott, Ia.; Mrs. Joseph Sawdey, Delmar, Ia.; Mrs. Sherman Lafayette, Welton, Ia.; Mrs. Harry Hayes, Clinton, Ia.; Mrs. Chris. Vohringer, Maquoketa, Ia.; William Watters, Zwingle, Ia.; David Watters Fulton, Ia.; Samuel Watters, and Frank Watters, Hurstville, Ia.; and Deloss Watters, Maquoketa, Ia.
Other relatives are a sister, Mrs. Wm Powers, Dayton, Ia., two brothers, Samuel Vanpelt of Davenport Ia., and Robert Vanpelt of Austin Minn. Fifty-seven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
For several months Mrs. Watters has been ill with Bright’s disease. She suffered much, but patiently. Death came Dec. 21, at 2:00 a.m. 1920. Her life of toil and care with its joys and happiness was extended to 76 years, five months and 26 days. Medical aid and loving hands did their utmost.
A faithful wife and mother has been called to her reward. Her helpful influence remains to strengthen and encourage the living to so live that the family circle may be complete in heaven.
Her going was peaceful and the great resurrection brings to all who are faithful unto death the never-ending life of the Redeemed.
The funeral service was held Thursday 2:30 p.m., Dec. 23, 1920, in the Methodist Episcopal church, by the pastor Edward A. Lang. The place of burial is Mt. Hope cemetery, Maquoketa. Ia.
