Dies Here Sunday;
In Business 50 Yrs.

Mahlon K. Miller, 88, who as Maquoketa’s oldest businessman operated a paint and music store for fifty years until his illness several weeks ago, died Sunday evening, Jan. 23.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wed., Jan. 26, in the Evangelical and Reformed church with the Rev. Howard E. Bell, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery.

The son of Gabriel and Sarah K. Miller, he was born Aug. 10, 1860, in Pennsylvania, and came to the Buckhorn community when but 6 years of age. With the exception of three years in Nebraska and six in Montana, he spent his entire life in this vicinity.

For 50 years he was a Maquoketa businessman. He was a charter member of the Evangelical and Reformed church and had sung in the church choir for 65 years. For many years, he was a member of the church consistory.

In June, 1862, he married Flora B. Shrigley, who died in 1941. Survivors include two sons, Jesse of Maquoketa, and Deloss of Billings, Mont.; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Hottenstein of Maquoketa & Mrs. Mary Hottenstein of Teitjen, Montana, and two grandsons.
