Rites Monday
Burial Mt. HopeLast rites for Kendall Hurst, 35, formerly of Maquoketa, who died May 8 in Germany, were held Monday afternoon at three o’clock in the Carson funeral home. The Rev. Bruce S. Dean pastor of the First Congregational church, officiated. Interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery. The American Legion and V. F. W. posts conducted military committal rites at the graveside.
Hurst, a captain in the U. S. army during World War II, served in the South Pacific. He reenlisted in the service following the war and had spent time in Europe. At the time of his death he was employed by an international insurance concern. He was a former co-publisher of the Maquoketa Community Press.
He was born Jan. 3, 1918, in Maquoketa, the son of Harry K. and Lucille Robinson Hurst. He attended Maquoketa and Cedar Rapids schools and was an alumnus of Wentworth Military academy, Lexington, Mo., and Chillicothe, Mo., business college.
His wife, the former Anne Chadwick, and three children survive, also two sons by a previous marriage. His mother, Mrs. Lucille Cuddy of Ames; one sister, Mrs. Marian Prugh of Bedford, Ia.; and two half sisters, Mrs. Virginia Farnsworth of Texas and Mrs. Mary Smith of Clinton are surviving.
Mr. Hurst was a grandson of Dr. and Mrs. M. A. Robinson of Maquoketa.
