SWIFT – Fredericka Braun was born at Wurttemburg, Germany, Jan. 19th, 1849, and died at her home on West Platt Street, Maquoketa, Iowa, at eight o’clock, Sunday morning, March 19, 1911. On March 26, 1868, she was united in marriage to James Swift at Emeline, Jackson county, Iowa. There was born to this union, five children: William H. Swift, Mrs. Mary L. Jacobs, Alva E. Swift, Mrs. Mina Saunders of Maquoketa, and Dr. Frederick Swift of Baldwin.

The deceased was for many years a resident of this community, well and favorably known. She was a faithful wife, a fond mother, a good neighbor, and a charitable friend. Mrs. Swift was a member of the First Congregational church of Maquoketa, Iowa. One of the most grievous trials attendant upon her long illness arose from the fact that for some time she had been unable to be present at Divine service. Like the Psalmist in exile, whose face was ever turned toward Jerusalem, her face was turned toward the House of God. To the last she was hopeful that her health might be restored to the measure that she could again worship with God’s people. Death came as a benediction to her long suffering. Besides her husband and children, the deceased is survived by two grandchildren, Fay Jacobs and Gladys Saunders.

The funeral service was held from the home yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. W. D. Lewis of the Congregational church officiating.
