Obituary

Lovina F. Blanchard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Blanchard, was born in Stockholm, St. Lawrence county, New York, January 31, 1853, and came to Iowa in 1868, since which time Maquoketa and vicinity have been her home. She was united in marriage December 17, 1871, to Charles D. Crane and to this union was born one son, N. P. Crane, now of Koenig, Colo.

Mrs. Crane was a woman whose companionship was a real pleasure; kind almost to a fault, she endeared a host of warm friends to her and who now mourn the passing of a grand good woman. She possessed that motherly trait which radiated and fell not only upon members of her family circle, but upon all who formed her acquaintance. Hospitality was engered in her home and “Mother Crane” was ever ready and eager to say a kindly word and perform a helpful deed to those who were in need of or craved a friendly hand.

Although she had been in rather poor health for some time, her condition was not deemed serious, but at 4:40 o’clock Tuesday morning, March 8, the death angel came and called Mrs. Charles Crane one of our city’s honored women, in her reward. The funeral will be held this Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Baptist church, on Niagara st., Rev. J. G. Morgan of the Congregational church officiating. Interment will be made in Mt. Hope cemetery.
