Funeral of Late J. F. Altfilisch Held This Afternoon

The funeral of the late J. F. Altfilisch, a former resident of this city, and who passed away at his home in Davenport Saturday was held from the Reformed church this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, Rev. D. F. Boomershine officiating.

Mr. Altfilisch was born near this city March 11, 1861, and grew to manhood in our midst where he engaged in the occupation of farmer, his farm being between this city and Delmar. Close attention to business industry and square dealing won for him a splendid compensation and he retired from rural life about fifteen years ago. He was united in marriage to Miss Emma Depew, to which union was born one daughter, who passed away at the age of six years. Mr. and Mrs. Altfilisch removed to Davenport about 14 years ago, which city had since been their home. For several months Mr. Altfilisch had been in failing health and although everything in human power was done to ward off the inevitable, death finally won the victory and he fell asleep on Saturday last. The body was brought to this city, accompanied by his faithful wife and taken to the home of the latter’s sister, Mrs. E. A. Barnes.

Deceased was a man of straight forward character, a kind husband and a true friend, and there are many in this city and community who deeply regret his untimely death.

The remains were laid to rest by the side of his little daughter in Mt. Hope cemetery.
