March 15, 1921Obituary
Miss Bettie Nims was born at Bolton, Warren county, N.Y., in the year 1838, on August 24th.
At the age of 16 she came to the state of Iowa, and since that time has lived in the vicinity of Maquoketa. The last seven years she has made her home with her niece, Mrs. Nora French, in Maquoketa, where she passed away on March 12, 1921, at the ripe age of 82 years.
Her departure is deeply regretted by all her friends, inasmuch as she was the soul of unselfish service – always thinking of others, and commonly known by the familiar name of “Aunt Bettie.” Her life was an example of the following lines:
“Slightest actions often meet the sorest needs;
For the world wants daily little kindly deeds;
How much care and sadness we can all remove,
If we scatter sunshine everywhere we go.”
The funeral took place from Buchner’s undertaking parlors on Monday, March 14, the Rev. L. E. Brough officiating. Interment was made in Bridgeport cemetery.
