Lena Blessing, Local Resident, Dies Suddenly

Miss. Lena Blessing, 76, well-known Maquoketan, died suddenly Tuesday evening while attending a meeting of Maple Leaf O. E. S. chapter.

Funeral services will be held this (Friday) at 2 p.m. in the Haylock O’Hara funeral home. The Rev. Bruce S. Dean, pastor, will officiate and burial will be made in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Born May 12, 1879, in the West Platt street apartment in which she had resided all her life, Miss Blessing was a daughter of the late William and Mary Gosch Blessing. She attended the Maquoketa schools and was associated with her father, for many years a prominent retail grocer here, in business. She graduated from Maquoketa high school in 1896.

For several years Miss Blessing served as a clerk in the various offices at the Jackson county courthouse. A member of the First Congregational church, she was a member of Maple Leaf O. E. S. chapter, the Maquoketa Business and Professional Women’s club, and was a charter member of the Kensington club. She was also a member of the Boardman Reference Library board of directors.

Only immediate survivor is a niece, Mrs. Helen Blessing Watt of Rock Island, Ill.
