John Dallager, Former Jackson Sheriff, Dies

Funeral services for a well known Maquoketan, John Dallagher, 80, were Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Carson funeral home. The Rev. M. H. Nothdurft, pastor of the Maquoketa Methodist church, officiated and interment was made in Evergreen cemetery at Sabula.

Mr. Dallager died Tuesday morning in his home here. He was born May. 6, 1875, in Savanna, Ill., a son of the late Michael and Christina Hoertz Dallager. His wife, the former Anna Cottral, whom he married on Dec. 4, 1902, survives him.

He was a retired railroad employee and served during World War I as deputy to Jackson County Sheriff Justin McCarthy. He served also two terms as county sheriff following the late Mr. McCarthy.

Survivors include his widow; two sons, Albert Dallager of Des Moines and Wayne Dallager of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Esther Waite and Mrs. Inez Miller of Maquoketa and Mrs. Lena L’Hommedieu of Fairfax Va.; and 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Four brothers, two sisters and two children preceded him in death.
