EUGENE C. GRUENWALD

Eugene C. Gruenwald 57, of Maquoketa, died Saturday in Jackson County Public Hospital following an extended illness.

The funeral was 11 a.m. today in First Lutheran church of Maquoketa, with the Rev. Ron Voss, Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Asbury, officiating. The body was donated to University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Mr. Gruenwald was born Sept. 15, 1927, in Nashville, Iowa, to Louis and Ida Weede Gruenwald. He married Thelma Pat Duemong, July 1, 1949, in Maquoketa. Mr. Gruenwald was a veteran of World War II and owned and operated Gruenwald TV and Appliance, Maquoketa. He had previously been employed at Clinton Engines Corporation, Northern Propane Gas Company, and Maquoketa Municipal Electric Department. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and was a deacon and steward on the church board, cub master for Cub Pack No. 67, Explorer Scout advisor, a member of Izaak Walton League, Maquoketa American Legion, and a life member and past commander of Maquoketa V.F.W.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Dean (Onalee) Steege of Waverly; two sons, Samuel of Maquoketa and Charles of Spirit Lake, Idaho; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. William (Eileen) Schumacher of Comanche, and Mrs. Albert (Clara) Klein of Savanna; and two brothers, Harvey of Maquoketa, and Leo of Bartlett, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and two brothers.

ADDENDUM - 1988

EUGENE GRUENWALD

Commital services for the cremains of Eugene C. Gruenwald were held on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Buckhorn Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Kamper of First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa, officiated.

The Maquoketa V.F.W. Post No. 3633, Maquoketa American Legion Post No. 75 and Andrew Amvets Post No. 62 attended in a body and conducted military services.

Mr. Gruenwald died July 13, 1985 and his body was donated to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Attending the services were his family from Maquoketa and Waverly, Iowa and Bartlett and Chadwick, Ill.
