An Old Settler Dies.

Clinton M. Graul died at his home in this city last Saturday morning, quite unexpectedly as he had been up and around the day previous and was not thought to be seriously ill. On Thursday of fair week Mr. Graul was taken sick and had to go home from the Anderson store in which he clerked. Since that time he had been ailing and unable to return to work, but on Saturday morning he sank rapidly and died from neuralgia of the heart.

Deceased was born in Reading, Berks county Penn. There he grew to manhood enlisting in the civil war in 1862. Served nine months taking part in the battles of Antietam and Chancellorsville. He was united in marriage with Sarah Rebecca Wilfert on Nov. 3rd 1867. To them were born seven children, five of whom survive. They are Edward of Chelsea, Iowa. Harry of Omaha, Nebraska, John of Canada, and George and Marion of this city. With his wife and family he came to Maquoketa in 1887 and for twenty seven years has been a trusted clerk in the employment of D. H. Anderson. For two years he worked for C. M. Sanborn. His wife died in 1881 since which time his daughter Marion has been his housekeeper. The funeral will occur tomorrow from the late home, Rev. G. C. Chandler conducting the services, interment in Mt. Hope. Mr. Graul was a good man highly esteemed by all who knew him and there are many who will miss him at the store where he has so long been a favorite.
