Jackson Sentinel, January 3, 1907:
GAYNOR-Mr. Patrick Gaynor, the subject of this sketch, was born Nov. 1, 1830 in Burrisicane, Tipperary County, Ireland, died at his residence in Otter Creek Township, Jackson County, Iowa, Sunday at 7 a.m., Dec. 16, 1906, after a long and painful illness.
He was married in New York City to Miss Hanna Fogerty over half a century ago, coming to Dubuque where he resided one year, thence to Jackson County where he lived the rest of his life. Mr. Gaynor was one of the few remaining old citizens whose ranks have been so sadly thinned the past few years. He was a man of great historical research and a great memory, any of the old neighbors who wished to recall a date of some important event always refered to Mr. Gaynor for information on same. He was a kind hearted man and while he had the strength and health to do so was always found at the death bed of some sick friend ready to render what assistance he could. His wife died about twenty-five years ago and daughter Ella in the same year. Another daughter, Mrs. Thomas Degan died New Year's Day, 1892. Two sons died when quite young. He is survived by four daughters viz: Mrs. Edward Ryan of Britt, Iowa. Anna a teacher and Mary and Hannah at home, and eight grandchildren. His funeral took place Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., services in Otter Creek Church, Rev. Halpin officiating, after which Mr. Gaynor was laid to rest in the cemetery close by where he had so often assisted in the burial of old friends and neighbors. His esteem in which he was held was shown by the large attendance at the funeral.
