Jackson Sentinel, Nov. 5, 1903:
Mary Wilson was born in Guernsey County, Ohio, Sept. 11, 1823, and died at Maquoketa, Iowa, Nov. 3, 1903, aged 80 years, 1 month, 21 days.
She came to Iowa in 1856 and was married to Daniel Schaeffer at Zwingle, Iowa, on Dec. 6, 1860. They settled on a farm in Farmers Creek Township where she resided until about the year 1880 when she came to live with her daughter Mrs. Gibson, where she lived until her death.
There were born to this union five children: Samuel J., Amy M., Margaret L., Robert A., and Wilbert E. Margaret L. and Wilbert E., along with their father, Daniel, passed away before, leaving Samuel J., Amy M., and Robert A. to survive their mother. One son in Oregon, the other in Alaska, and both unmarried.
She united with the United Presbyterian Church while young and for years was a faithful member of that church.
Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lou Gibson, 3 miles southwest of Maquoketa, on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., where a large circle of friends and neighbors assembled to pay their respects. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Rev. D.F.Boomershine, officiated.
