Funeral Service Held At Monmouth For Jos. Kostechek.
Monmouth-On Sunday morning, June 10, Monmouth lost one of its oldest and most respected citizens, Joseph Kostechek, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mike Yarolem, south of Monmouth.
Mr. Kostechek was born Jan. 14, 1859, in Prague, Bohemia, the son of Frank and Emma Kostechek. At the age of four years he came with his parents to America and to a home northwest of Monmouth. A year later they moved to a farm northeast of Oxford Junction, where he grew to manhood. On Nov. 7, 1881, he was united in marriage to Miss Frances Chaloupka and they established their home on a farm four miles southwest of Monmouth where they lived for many years having then moved to Monmouth.
Four children were born to this union. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1931, a daughter Mrs. Julia Yarolem in 1929, his parents, four sisters and two brothers. Surviving are his daughters, Mrs. Anna Winters, Mrs. Sadie Yarolem, and one son, Lee Kostechek, all of or near Monmouth, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one brother Frank Kostechek of Oxford Junction.
He was engaged in farming, at which occupation he was successful.
Funeral service was held at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon with a prayer at the home of the son, Lee Kostechek, and at 2:00 at the Methodist Church, in charge of Rev. Steinman, local pastor.
Songs were sung by Mrs. Anna Best, Mrs. Lee Allen, accompanied by Mrs. Shelby Orris. Pallbearers were E.R.Bristol, L.C.Hannahs, John Fritz, Joe Agnitsch, George Trimble, and Fred Behnke. Flowers were in charge of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Fritz and Edna Zak. Burial was in the Monmouth Cemetery.
