Audrey M. Steines, 91, of Maquoketa and formerly of Springbrook, Iowa, died Monday, August 20, 2007, at the Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, August 24, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa.

Burial will be in the St. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springbrook.

Family and friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa, where a Catholic Daughters of America rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m and a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Audrey Margaret Helmle was born on May 2, 1916, in Springbrook, Iowa, to Joseph and Mary (Tebbe) Helmle. She married Reinold J. Steines, Sr. on November 29, 1934 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Springbrook, Iowa. He died on June 27, 1994.

She was a homemaker and had farmed with her husband near Springbrook for 40 years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Raphael 1156, Jackson County Senior Center, Volunteer Quilters, and Jackson County Public Hospital Auxiliary, Maquoketa. She delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered for many organizations.

She is survived by 5 daughters, Doneta (Jack) West, Austin, TX, Charlene (Clyde) Michel, Preston, Mary Ann Michel and Jean (Mike) Bellendier, both of Maquoketa, and Manette (Don) Storlie, Moline, IL; 9 sons, Verlyn (Carol Jean) Steines and Clayton (Chris) Steines, both of DeWitt, Reinold (Laura) Steines, Jr., Bellevue, Mardell (Janet) Steines and Robert (Ruth) Steines, both of Spragueville, Lorin (Jane) Steines and Loras Steines, both of Moline, IL, Dwain (Jan) Steines, Littleton, CO, and Fred (Debbie) Steines, Maquoketa; 39 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Mary Helmle, of Bellevue.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three sons, Larry in 1949, Cletus in 1955 and Mike in 1987, three grandchildren, a son-in-law, Darrell Michel, a great-grandson, Carter Martin, a daughter-in-law, Beth Steines, and two brothers, Leroy and Donald Helmle.
