MAQUOKETA — Laura M. DeLarm, 100, of Maquoketa and formerly of Center Junction and Onslow, died Friday at the Maquoketa Care Center.

Burial will be in Buckhorn Cemetery, rural Maquoketa.

She was born Jan. 30, 1907, in Enid, Okla., to Francois “Frank” and Ella Liston Shirley. She married Archie DeLarm on Dec. 1, 1925, in Davenport. He died in 1992.

As a young girl, she worked in the cotton fields of Oklahoma eventually moving to Iowa with her family and settling in Eldora where she began washing dishes at age 9 until 14. She and her family then moved to Maquoketa where she attended school in the fourth ward district and also worked as a waitress.

Upon her marriage, she became a homemaker and farmed with her husband for 42 years, first in Charlotte, then Calamus and finally in Center Junction before retiring to Onslow in 1972.

Survivors include her children, Jerry (Freda) DeLarm of Monmouth, Iowa, Betty Etten of Monticello, Bessie Huffman of Onslow, Pat Heister of Maquoketa, Cliff (Deb) DeLarm of Monmouth, Donna (Bob) Burroughs of Marion and Linda Eby of Wyoming, Iowa; 30 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren.

A Laura M. DeLarm Memorial Fund has been established.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, three brothers and two sisters.
