Jackson Sentinel, August 2, 1894:
Daniel Schrauder died at his home in Chicago, July 25, 1894, of disease resulting from gun shot wounds, aged 58 years.
In accordance with his request before death, the remains of deceased were brought to Maquoketa for burial by Drips Post, G.A.R. Deceased was born and raised in Northumberland County, Pa. At the commencement of the Rebellion he enlisted in Co. D, 8th Regt., Pa Vol., and served his country faithfully for three years; he then re-enlisted and continued in the service to the end of the war. Mr. Schrauder was in twenty-one hard fought battles, receiving several wounds from the effects of which he died. He was a member of Gotfrey Weitzel Post No. 125, G.A.R., of Chicago and was also a member of the German Reform Church. His funeral at Chicago was conducted by his church and post on Sabbath afternoon. The remains arrived in Maquoketa Monday, were taken in charge by the post and friends made during his residence in our city, and with due ceremony was laid to rest in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
