MAQUOKETA — Helen L. Meyer, 83, of Maquoketa, died Sunday at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

She was born May 11, 1924, in Maquoketa to Jerry M. and Hilda Atzen Widel. She married Arnold J. Meyer on Jan. 12, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. He died in 2002.

She worked as a custodian with her husband for many years at Voy Theaters and 61 Drive-In Theatre in Maquoketa.

Survivors include her children, Gary ( Sheryl) Meyer of Adel, Fred (Irma) Meyer of Maquoketa, Don (Phyllis) Meyer of Clinton, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim (Ingrid) Widel and Kenneth (Alice) Widel of Monmouth, Iowa; three sisters, Frances Willey of Maquoketa, Bernice (Jim) Frank of Maquoketa and Janice (Jerry) Edwards of Camanche; and one son-in-law, Dennis Voy of Maquoketa.

A Helen L. Meyer Memorial Fund has been established.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, one grandchild, two great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister.
