MAQUOKETA — Hazel Head-Waugh, 88, of Maquoketa, died Sunday at the Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa.

Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa.

She was born Aug. 9, 1918, in Presho, S.D., to Catherine May Russell-Hopson and John Henry Hopson. She married Michael Dillon Head on Sept. 2, 1936, in Maquoketa. He died in 1980. She then married Howard Waugh on Jan. 19, 1995, in Maquoketa.

She was a homemaker for several years. She then worked with Clinton Engines until the plant closed. She then became a Stanley dealer until her retirement.

She was active with the Jackson County Senior Center and she belonged to several clubs and organizations including: Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Raphael 1156, Sacred Heart Church and its circle, Jackson County Hospital Auxiliary, several card clubs and the Widows Club for 15 years.

Survivors include her husband, Howard Waugh of Maquoketa; four sons, Frank (Fran) Head of Phoenix, Bob (Joan) Head, Mick (Jeanne) Head and Jim (Peggy) Head, all of Maquoketa; and one daughter, Mary Kay (George) Ronek of Andrew; two stepdaughters, Saundra (Leyland) Ruggeberg of Grand Mound and Judy (Merle) Paulsen of Maquoketa; 24 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Dunne of Otter Creek; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jackson County.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, one son, one great-great-grandchild, five sisters and three brothers.
