MAQUOKETA — Paul V. Rechtfertig, 93, of Maquoketa, died Sunday at Crestridge Nursing Home, Maquoketa.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

Burial of cremains will be held at a later date in Waterloo Memorial Park.

He was born May 6, 1914, in Waterloo to Gregory and Josephine Rheisen Rechtfertig. He married Grace Townsend on June 30, 1937, in Waterloo.

He graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Waterloo.

He was employed in the propane business for 41 years and was the manager of the Maquoketa Gas Co. for 10 years.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa; Maquoketa Lions Club and Maquoketa City Council. He also was active in Boy Scouts.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Louis Rechtfertig of Blue Grass and Peter (Jill) Rechtfertig of Sheboygan, Wis.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A Paul V. Rechtfertig Memorial Fund has been established.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
