MAQUOKETA — Dorothy M. Chittenden, 99, of Maquoketa, died Thursday at Crestridge Nursing Home, Maquoketa.
Burial will be in Pence Cemetery, rural Baldwin.
She was born March 12, 1908, in Baldwin to Fred and Etta Harding Scott. She married Albert Chittenden on June 27, 1936, in Rock Island, Ill. He died in 1962.
She was a 1925 graduate of Maquoketa High School and received secretarial training in Davenport.
She worked as a secretary with an insurance agency and real estate office in Davenport for many years before retiring to Maquoketa in 1973.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Maquoketa; the Jackson County Senior Center, Jackson County Volunteers and AARP. She volunteered for many years at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa prior to becoming a resident there.
Survivors include one sister, Margery (Ergon) Penningroth of Maquoketa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Dorothy M. Chittenden Memorial Fund has been established.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven brothers and two sisters.
