Jackson Sentinel, May 1, 1953:
Cpl. Alan Stuckel Killed In B-29 Bomber Mishap Near San Antonio.
Cpl. Alan Stuckel, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Stuckel of Maquoketa, was one of ten U.S. airmen killed when an Air Force B-29 bomber, simulating combat, crashed Wednesday six miles from Randolph Field, its home base, near San Antonio, Texas. Cpl. Stuckel enlisted in the Air Force on January 30, 1952. The son of Steve and Madge Hansen Stuckel, he was born in Maquoketa on November 8, 1932. He was a graduate of Maquoketa High School class of 1950, and had attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette for a year prior to his enlistment. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and had been prominent in high school athletics.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Diane and Linda, both at home, his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Steve Stuckel, Sr., of Maquoketa, and his maternal grandfather, Oce Hansen, also of Maquoketa.
