Wm. Cundill, Sr. Passes On.
Wm. Cundill, Sr. was born July 7, 1816, at Chatham, Kent, England, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. O.W.Joiner, at Joinerville, passing peacefully away at 8:30 Tuesday evening, March 28, 1905, age 88 years, 8 months, 28 days. In 1943 he married Mary Pinder. Conditions not being to his liking and longing for a freer atmosphere, they came to America in 1850, with a colony organized in England to settle in Welton in Clinton County, where they ran a hotel for five years when they removed to Maquoketa, where he has since resided, his wife preceded him to the better land in July 1902. Mr. Cundill was of progressive mind, bold and fearless, always doing battle for the public weal. To his efforts and influence more than all others is due the bequeathment for the establishing of the Boardman library. His influence always went out for better education and better morals.
Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Cundill, John and Frank having passed to the other shore some years ago. Will of this city and Mrs. O.W.Joiner remaining.
Funeral services were held at the home of Will Cundill in this city on Thursday at 3 p.m. Revs Chandler and Black officiating with interment in Mt. Hope.
