Maquoketa Record, January 2, 1907:
James Russell Wright, an old resident and honored citizen of Maquoketa departed this life on Friday afternoon last at his home in this city, from the ravages of Bright's disease from which he had been a sufferer for several years. Death came suddenly and quite unexpectedly as he had been feeling about as usual throughout the day, and no premonition of the early visit of the dread messenger was noted. He, however, was taken suddenly ill in the evening and passed peacefully and quickly away. Mr. Wright came to this county with his parents in pioneer days. Here he grew to useful manhood and lived an honorable upright life. He was respected by all who knew him and regret at his death is universal. He leaves a widow, one son, Wm. Wright of Preston, South Dakota, and a daughter, Mrs. Charles Fuller of Rock Island, both of whom were present at the funeral.
The funeral occurred on Monday last conducted by Rev. Malcom Dana with interment in Union Cemetery, a large concourse of friends and neighbors following the remains to their place of final repose.
