Maquoketa Record, June 28, 1905:
J.C.Hughey, one of the pioneers of Jackson County, passed over to the great beyond at his home in Bellevue, June 19, 1905, and was laid away Thursday. He was born near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, August 3, 1825. He located in Bellevue in 1852 and continued in business until 1876. He was one of Bellevue's most useful and respected citizens.
