DEATH CALLS JOHN SCHOCKER

The city and community were shocked last Friday when the sad news of the sudden death of John Schocker was broadcast among his friends and acquaintances. Death occurred at 2;30 o'clock in the afternoon of that day, following a heart attack which he suffered in the early forenoon. Mr. Schocker had not been feeling well for several days and chose to take a short vacation from his work in the employ of his brother, A.L. Schocker in this city. He was intending to visit his farm in the afternoon and came down town to make a few purchases, and as he passed the Raab transfer office on West Platt street was stricken with a heart attack falling heavily to the walk. He soon rallied somewhat and was taken to his home on South 4th street, but continued to grow weaker until the end came.

We knew Mr. Schocker as a neighbor and friend, and his honesty and kindly ways; his square-dealing and keen sense of honorable living, called forth our respect and esteem and ours was shared by all who knew him. A good citizen has left us; a devoted husband, father and brother has passed on to his reward and his memory will be cherished by a wide circle of sorrowing friends. He was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic church and strove to live close to every Christian teaching.

John Schocker was born near Maquoketa, April 9, 1872 and spent his boyhood and young manhood on the farm east of town. He was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Murray to whom two children were born, Earl of this community, a daughter, Mrs. Blanche Brinker passing away a few years ago.

Besides his wife and son, he leaves one brother, A.L. Schocker and two sisters, Mrs. Albert Loitz and Mrs. Henry Neiland all of this city.

Funeral services were held from Sacred Heart Church Monday morning, Rev. Fr. Mullin officiating. Burial was made in Sacred Heart cemetery.
