Maquoketa Record, Nov. 7, 1906:
The announcement of the sudden death of Mrs. Wm. Ploeger at her home in the west end of town on last Monday afternoon at 1:00 came as a shock to the community, as it was not generally known that Mrs. Ploeger's condition was serious although she had been in poor health all summer. Only four weeks ago she returned from an extended visit with her brother at Boston, Mass., and while there consulted several specialists regarding her ailment. She suffered from dropsy, but the immediate cause of her death was heart failure. Monday she was up and around as usual, but her husband states that after dinner he noticed that something was wrong, and while crossing the room Mrs. Ploeger suddenly pitched forward into her husband's arms and expired, no one else being present at the time of her demise. The funeral will be held Friday from the Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Senz.-Bellevue Leader.
