ANDREW — Owen K. Bowman, 81, of Andrew, died Friday at his home.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Burial will be in the Andrew Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by Maquoketa American Legion Post 75, Maquoketa VFW Post 3633 O’Connor-Regenwether and Andrew AMVETS Post 62.
He was born Sept. 23, 1925, in Maquoketa to Kenneth and Laura Bolt Bowman. He married Jeanette L. Waddell on Dec. 4, 1946, in Evanston, Ill. She died in 1990.
He attended Andrew High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving as a motor machinist’s mate third class during World War II.
After receiving an honorable discharge, he and his brother, Neale, opened Bowman Locker in Andrew. He retired from the locker in 1981. He and his wife then purchased Maquoketa Music.
He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Andrew and Maquoketa American Legion Post 75.
Survivors include his children, Steven (Dawn) Bowman of Cedar Rapids, Dennis (Julane) Bowman of Savanna, Ill., and Debora (Bruce) Ihrig of Maquoketa; one brother, Neale Bowman of Andrew; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
An Owen K. Bowman Memorial Fund has been established.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one grandchild and one brother.
