MAQUOKETA — LaVone F. Jan, 98, of Maquoketa, died Monday at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, at a later date.

She was born May 3, 1909, in Lost Nation to John A. and Emma Spohn Purdy. She married Anton Jan on Nov. 18, 1931, in Rock Island, Ill. He died in 1994.

She was a 1930 Maquoketa High School graduate.

She worked on the crank line at Clinton Engines, Maquoketa, for more than 33 years.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Maquoketa.

Survivors include one son, Jackie Jan of Davenport; and one sister, Freda Lenhart of Maquoketa.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Camp Courageous of Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, two sisters and three brothers.
