SABULA — Thomas “Tom” R. Dent, 47, of Sabula, died Saturday at his home.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula.

He was born May 23, 1960, to Charles and Lillian Dawson Dent in Iowa City. He also was the foster son of Mary Stoddard of Sabula.

He graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1980.

He worked for many people in the Sabula area doing odd jobs and lawn maintenance.

He was an active member of the Sabula Volunteer Fire Department for 18 1/2 years.

Survivors include two brothers, Paul (Deborah) Dent of Bellevue and Al Dent of Savanna, Ill.; two sisters, Sarah (Gerald) Heath of Clinton and Irene (Ted) Pope of Poteau, Okla.; and three nephews and one niece.

Memorials may be given in his name in lieu of flowers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
