EDWIN RAAB, 70, OF MAQUOKETA, DIES WEDNESDAY
Edwin L. Raab, 70, died in the Jackson county hospital in Maquoketa Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 11, following a short illness.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, from the Carson funeral home. The Rev. Herman R. Crawford of Plainfield, former pastor of the First Baptist church in Maquoketa, conducted the services. Burial was made in Mt. Hope cemetery. Pallbearers were Lester Peterson, Ernest Raab, Jr., Ronald Veit, Bob Caven, Paul Romer and Herbert Faaborg.
Mr. Raab was born at Iron Hills March 18, 1880, a son of Joseph and Almira Shady Raab. On March 29, 1900, he was married to Elsie Hawkins. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last March. Mr. Raab spent his entire lifetime in the Maquoketa vicinity with the exception of three years when he engaged in farming in Oelwin and LaPlata, Mo. For 43 years, he operated the Raab transfer line in Maquoketa. He retired from the business in 1945.
He is survived by his widow and two daughters, Audra of Davenport and Mrs. Gladys Hoffmann of Maquoketa; three grandchildren, Donald and John Hoffmann and Mrs. Shirley Howell, all of Maquoketa; two brothers, Walter of Maquoketa and Ernest of Clinton, and one sister, Mrs. Alice Eck of Florence, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.

Bauch, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Snyder, Norma Orth and Phyllis Schrecker, Davenport; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Faaborg, Mr. and Mrs. Oakley Brown and Mrs. Martin Youngquist and daughter Janet of Cedar Rapids.
Mrs. Cornelia Brown and Mrs. Will Grassfield of Marion; Jerry Hawkins, Sidney Hawkins and Mrs. William McMillan of Monona; Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hughes, Mrs. Estelle Gilbert and Bob Caven of Iowa City; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Moles and Mrs. Robert Moles of Worthington, Minn.; Donald Welch, Ed Tschiggfrie and Dean Beiderman of Dubuque, and Mrs. and Mrs. Ray Airgood of Martelle.
