SUTTON

Anna Roush, youngest child of George and Anna Springer-Roush was born near Wabas (Indiana) Aug. 31, 1840. When a child of seven years she removed with her parents to Jackson county Iowa settling north of Maquoketa on what is now one of the finest farms in Jackson county.

Here she grew to young womanhood and in the Fall of 1864 was united in marriage to William Sutton a promising young farmer of the same locality. To this union were born five children namely, John and Ollie who passed away in young man and young womanhood, Russel, George and Walter. In June 1887 they were bereft of husband and father to whose memory and children she ever clung.

The deceased was a mild, sweet tempered woman, a devoted mother a loving sister and above all a consistent Christian, walking steadfastly in the light as it shone in her pathway.

Mrs. Sutton has been in declining health for more than a year but bore her afflictions bravely and without murmering until death released her on the evening of September 22, 1909 when she went peacefully to sleep with the blessed assurance that it was well with her soul.

Funeral services were conducted at the L. D. S. church west of Fulton by her pastor Rev. John Heide and the body laid to rest in a quiet sunny spot near the church she loved so well.

The pall bearers were E. N. Roush Henry Koon, Andrew Baker, Lee Teeters, Oliver Koon and Issac Tompson, nephews of deceased.

Besides her three sons and eight grand children she leaves two sisters and two brothers and a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn her loss but they are not sorrowing as those without hope.
