Maquoketa Record, August 1, 1906:
Bertie E. Tracy passed away Friday night, July 27th, at 11:50 P.M., at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.S.Tracy, on North Main Street, Maquoketa, aged 20 years, 11 months and 16 days. He was born at Iron Hill, Jackson County, Iowa, August 11, 1885. He was a victim of a complication of diseases. Bert was a bright and good natured boy; during his younger days he was a very energetic little fellow. At the age of 12 years he suffered a sunstroke while riding a bicycle, which had given him much trouble since. He was twice sent to Independence Hospital for treatment, coming home about two and a half months ago the picture of good health. He was taken sick about nine days before his death. All that medical skill and loving hands could do was done, but to no avail, he passed peacefully away on the above date. He was a young man of excellent habits, his kind disposition and honest integrity made for him many friends among his associates. He leaves a father, mother, three sisters, many relatives and friends to mourn his untimely death. The funeral services which were largely attended, were conducted by Rev. W.J.Trimble at the home Sunday afternoon.
