WALTER F. NIMS DIES IN FIRE
FOUL PLAY RULED OUT IN DEATH OF FATHER

The four-room home in west Davenport Saturday night was a blazing inferno by the time firemen arrived. They drenched the flames and began probing the ruins in an effort to determine the cause.

They found a charred body, later identified as that of Walter F. Nims, 35, a former Maquoketan.

His wife and four children were attending the Mississippi Valley fair at the time.

An autopsy by Coroner Reed Phillips failed to show any evidence of foul play. Cause of the blaze was undetermined.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Nims, the deceased was born in Maquoketa on March 14, 1915. On Nov. 14, 1938, he was married here to Alma Current.

Besides his wife and mother he is survived by four children, Julius, Jack, Ronald and Wayne all of Davenport; two brothers, Floyd and Vernon, and two sisters, Mrs. Vivian Richardson and Mrs. Marjorie Barb both of Dubuque. His father preceded him in death.

Funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Wednesday in Carson funeral home. Rev. Forrest Clark of Miles, officiated. Burial was in Bridgeport cemetery.
