RILEY EDWARDS DIES IN ROCK ISLAND
Riley A. Edwards, 71, of Rock Island, died in his home there Saturday afternoon following an illness of two years.
Funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Knox chapel in Rock Island. Burial was made at Mt. Hope cemetery in Maquoketa with the Rev. Bruce Dean of the Congregational church officiating at the graveside service.
Mr. Edwards was a son of the late Eli and Ida Gee Edwards and was born Oct. 1, 1878 in Maquoketa. He lived in this vicinity until 25 years ago when he moved to Rock Island where he was an employee of the Knox mortuary for over 20 years. He was also at one time a farmer and an engineer. He married Leaphy Palmer in Maquoketa on March 30, 1898.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Velma Crossan of Rock Island; a son, King Edwards, a Rock Island policeman; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Pease of Caldwell, Idaho, and Mrs. Russell Fryburg of San Francisco; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
