LIAS, ANDERSON, HUTCHINS

WILLIAM HARRISON LIAS, an old resident of Jackson County, and a highly respected citizen, died at his home in this city, Wednesday, April 16, 1902, aged about 64 years. The cause of his death was dropsy, although he had been a sufferer from asthma and heart trouble for a number of years. Mr. Lias was a Pennsylvanian by birth. He came to Iowa in 1857, settling in Jackson County, where he has since resided. September 20, 1861, he enlisted in Company M, 2nd Iowa Cavalry, serving three years. He then re-enlisted and served till September 19, 1865, when he was honorably discharged. Mr. Lias was married to Phebe E. Anderson, July 16, 1871, who survives him, together with three children-Mrs. Stella Hutchins, Miss Lillie Lias and a son, Harry-who feel keenly the loss of a kind husband and father. He was a member of the M.E. Church, and a sincere Christian, and when in health took an active part in church work. The funeral was held from the M.E.Church, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Parsons conducting the services. Both the Masons and A.W.Drips Post(Grand Army of the Republic) attended in a body and assisted in the last rites at the burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
