MAQUOKETA — Bernadette Billups, 81, of Maquoketa, died Thursday at her home.

Private burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa.

Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Farrah Roberts, Luke and Ivy Wendel, Erica Sweeney, Sasha Veenstra, Josh and Wes DeShaw and Matt Todd.

She was born May 28, 1925, in Fillmore Township, Dubuque County, to Harry and Rose Waters McClimon. She married James C. Billups on May 25, 1947, in Lost Nation. He died in 1982.

She graduated from Elwood High School in 1945 and attended Capri Cosmetology in Dubuque.

She was a hairdresser with Jack and Associates, Maquoketa, before retiring in 2006.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa.

Survivors include three daughters, Rosalie (Chuck) Wendel of Maquoketa, Diane (Mike) Todd of Cedar Rapids and LouAnne (Tim) DeShaw of Hopkinton; eight grandchildren; and one brother, Paul McClimon of Lost Nation.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jackson County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and one sister.
