CHALRES CRANE TAKES LIFE BY HANGING
The people of our city were given a shock this afternoon when the news was reported that Charles Crane, who lived alone in a little cottage on North Niagara street, had taken his life by hanging.
Mr. Crane had been in exceptionally poor health for several days and while under the care of a physician had not been confined to his bed. About 2:30 o'clock this afternoon, E.C. Clark, a long-time friend of Mr. Crane, called to see him and entering the house found no one in the rooms and inquired of M. W. Clark, who resides next door, as to Mr. Crane's whereabouts. The latter informed him that he thought him to be at home and believed him to be about the place, and with this Mr. Clark returned to the house and going into the basement found the dead body of Mr. Crane suspended by a rope to a beam above. A chair lay nearby, indicating that the old gentleman had stepped off therefrom into eternity.
Coroner, J. O. Ristine was called and stated that life had been extinct for several hours. Mr. M.W. Clark stated that about 2 o'clock this morning he had seen Mr. Crane moving about in his home therefore the tragedy took place sometime after that hour.
The body was removed to the Buchner undertaking parlors and prepared for burial. No further arrangements have been made at this writing.
DEATH DATE: Not given, but likely April 1925
