VICTOM OF AUTO ACCIDENT LAID TO REST SATURDAY
Funeral services for Miss Gehster Swigart, who died Thursday afternoon from injuries sustained Wednesday evening when struck by an automobile were held at four o'clock Saturday afternoon from the home of her mother on North Main street. The services were private and were conducted by Mrs. Frank Keeney of First church of Christ Scientist, with interment in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Miss Swigart, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Swigart, was born in Maquoketa, Nov. 11, 1881 and had lived here all of her life until the past few years when she and her mother had spent most of the time with her brother, Carlisle Swigart in Alabama and her sister, Mrs. Harold Campbell, in Minneapolis, although they still retained their home in this city. Miss Swigart was of a quiet unassuming nature, which with her kindly manner, won for her many friends who mourn her untimely passing. Her father precede her in death about 15 years ago.
Surviving are her mother, two brothers, Carlisle of Birmingham, Alabama, and Franklin of New York City, one sister, Mrs. Harold Campbell of Minneapolis.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Campbell and daughter Mary and Carlisle arrived Saturday morning, but Franklin was unable to come at this time.
Miss Swigart left home Wednesday eveninig about six o'clock on an errand up town and in crossing Main street diagonally to the postoffice was struck by a Ford car driven by Will Grant of this city. Mr. Grant immediately stopped the car and with the assistance of passersby took her to Dr. Johnson's office and from there to the hospital where every care was given her but she never regained consciousness, having suffered a severe skull fracture.
Coroner J. O. Ristine impaneled a jury consisting of E.L. Hinckley, W. J. Matthias and Frank Gibson, who brought in a verdict that she came to her death as a result of an unavoidable accident, thus completely exonerating Mr. Grant.
