OBITUARY
George Gibson was born October 24, 1843 and Died November 12, 1925.
He was born near Brighton, Canada and came to Iowa when he was seven years old with his parents and settled near Maquoketa where he has spent his entire life with exception of eight years when he lived in Dubuque county.
He has been a resident of Jackson county sixty-seven years. He lived on a farm up to twenty years ago when he moved to Maquoketa.
He was married to Alice McNary, Sept. 7, 1866. To this union six children were born: Lewis Gibson, of Manchester, Iowa; Wallace Gibson, who passed away Jan. 13, 1918; Mrs. Ida Tompkins of West Union, Iowa; Hattie Gibson, who died Oct. 30,1886; William Gibson of Wall, South Dakota, and Mrs. Carrie Crane of Denver, Colorado.
Mrs. Gibson passed away Dec. 11, 1893.
On November 2, 1895 he was married to Mrs. Matilda Curtis. To this union one daughter was born, Mrs. Marvel Goldsmith of Long Beach, California.
He leaves to mourn, his wife, five children, two step daughters, Mrs. Harry Reed of Milford, Iowa and Mrs. Pearl Correll of this city, thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Samuel and James Gibson of this city, three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Sizemore of Manley, Iowa, Mrs. E. H. Burnett of Rockford, Iowa, Mrs. Rose Smith of Cupetino, California, besides numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
He has been in failing health since the death of his brother William, June 1, 1925.
Three weeks ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis and passed peacefully away November 12, 1925 with the wife and all the children at his bedside.
He was a devoted husband and father, kind neighbor and honored citizen always thinking of the welfare of others before himself.
Funeral services were held at the late home, Saturday, November 14, at 10 a.m. conducted by the Rev. F. C. Worcester at the Methodist Episcopal church.
