Last Rites For B.P.Scheckel At Springbrook.
Springbrook, April 20(1949)- Benjamin P. Scheckel, 43, passed away Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at his home, two miles east of here. He was ailing several months and succumbed to a heart attack.
He was born May 29, 1906, near here the son of the late Matt and Catharine Scheckel.
He married Marcella Sturm, November 12, 1929, in Springbrook, by the Rev. G. Knapstein.
Survivors include his wife, three sons, Adrian, Allen and Dennis, six daughters, Mary Catharine, Naoma, Cornia Mae, Doris Jean and Judith, all at home, six brothers, Arnold of Wauzeka, Wis., Alvin, Lynnville, Wis., Vern, Mattie, Florian and LeRoy, of Springbrook, eight sisters, Mrs. Albert Medinger, Mrs. George Gonner, Miss Erma Scheckel, of Springbrook, Mrs. John Fey of Eastman, Wis., Mrs. Tony Fleiar, of Boscobel, Wis., Mrs. Herbert Messerich, Preston, and Mrs. Wilfred Clausen of LaMotte.
His mother preceded him in death on Jan. 18, 1949 and one brother, Herman. Interment was made 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, requiem mass was sung Monday morning by Rev. J.A.May, in St. Peter and Paul Church. (Maquoketa Community Press, April 21, 1949.)
