PROMINENT YOUNG MAN DIES
Almost unbelieveable was the sad news spread over the community early Tuesday morning that Lawrence C. Smola had passed away, for it had only been a few days previous that he was visiting on the street with his friends, and hardly anyone had heard of his fatal illness, and his death came as a great shock to his family and friends.
Lawrence was the youngest son of John and Anna Smola, and was born in Maquoketa Jan. 18, 1893, and passed away at his home March 9, 1926. He received his education in our public schools. At an early age he entered into the cement business which occupation he has followed; being the senior member of the firm of Smola & Ralston. On Sept. 2, 1911, he was united in marriage to Edna Grant and to this union three children were born, Nadine, Margaret and L. C. Junior.
Lawrence was a highly respected young man and his honest integrity and strict attention to business won for him a host of friends. He has answered the final summons, leaving to mourn many who fail to understand the mysterious ways of Him who governs our destinies. He was an honored member of Modern Woodmen.
Besides his devoted wife and family he is survived by his mother and two sisters, Lena of Platteville, Wis., and Ruth at home, and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. F. C. Worcester. Burial was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.
DEATH DATE: March 9, 1926
