John D. Pearson, Veteran River Pilot, Is Dead.
Andrew, Mar. 1(1950)- John D. Pearson, 95, died at the Masonic Sanitorium, Bettendorf, where he has lived since 1943.
He was born in the Andrew vicinity, Dec. 11, 1854 and was the adopted son of the late George and Lorraine Downing. For fifty years he was employed as a pilot on the Mississippi River. John lived at the Butterworth home here a short time before going to Bettendorf. He was honored in 1948 with a 75 year membership in the Masonic lodge. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3:00 P.M. in the Carson-Balster funeral home, Maquoketa. Interment was made in the Andrew Cemetery. (Maquoketa Community Press, Mar. 2, 1950.)
