W.H. Swift Dies at 80; Funeral Is Held On Sunday.
William H. Swift, 80, died Thursday evening in the Henningsen nursing home here following an illness of several months. He was removed the week before from Mercy Hospital in Davenport.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Carson-Balster funeral home. The Rev. Bruce S. Dean, pastor of the First Congregational Church officiated. Members of the Galuska band, popular in Maquoketa some 35 years ago, were pallbearers.
Mr. Swift was born May 27, 1869, near Emeline, son of the late James and Fredericka Swift. Unmarried, he had lived in Maquoketa since he retired from the farm several years ago.
Survivors include two brothers, Dr. F.J. Swift, Sr. and Alva Swift, both of Maquoketa, he was preceded in death by two sisters. (Maquoketa Community Press, March 2, 1950.)
