Christ Hansen Petersen, aged 63 years, 3 months and 2 days, passed away at his home on Route 4, Maquoketa, on Thursday, Sept. 20, 1917, at 2:15 p.m. Mr. Petersen had been ailing for eleven years and had been confined to his home for the past year. he was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and was married Oct. 7, 1877, to Hanna JENSEN. They remained in Germany two years and came to this country in 1879, locating at Preston, and later moved to Maquoketa. His occupation was farming and he was highly respected in this community. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, five girls and five boys, as follows: Mrs. Frank BOYLE of Chicago; Neils PETERSEN of Rumford, S.D.; Mrs. Wm. BECK, Mrs. Gottlieb BECK, Jens PETERSEN of Maquoketa; Hans PETERSEN of Isabel, S.D.; Peter PETERSEN and Mrs. Harry ECKHOFF of Hurley, S.D.; Miss Mary PETERSEN and Mr. Engvert PETERSEN at home; also a brother, Peter PETERSEN, of Chicago, and fourteen grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon at one o'clock, Rev. Mole of Preston officiating.
Burial was made in the cemetery near the home farm.
All the children were here to attend their father's funeral with the exception of Hans, who had just returned to his home in Isabel, So. Dak.
Mr. Petersen was a member of the Clinton order of the Danish Brotherhood.
ADDITIONAL NOTES: Birthdate was 18 June 1854
His correct name was Christian Hansen Petersen and his wife was Johanna N. Jensen. I copied the newspaper, so that is the difference in the names.
