OBITUARY OF MRS. JOHN BECK
Elizabeth KECK BECK was born Dec. 12 1849 at Wurtemberg, Germany. After a lingering illness of several years she passed from her temporal abode to eternity on Monday, July 30, at 7 p.m., at the age of 78 years, 7 months, and 18 days.
In accordance with the Word of God and the principles of the Lutheran church she was baptized in infancy and after due instructions confirmed in that faith, in which faith she was willing to trust even unto death.
She grew up to womanhood in the parental home and in the year 1871 came to America to become the bride of John Beck. For 57 years she was the faithful helpmeet of her wedded husband. Nine children were born to this union; Mrs. Wm. WEETS; John Jr.; Mrs. John WURSTER; Chris; William; Gottlieb; Henry; Herman; and Minnie all of Maquoketa and vicinity. Mrs. Wm. WEETS, Herman and Minnie preceded their mother in death.

Besides the aged husband and grieving family, she leaves to mourn her departure 24 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Home is not home for mother is not there. Death hath taken her out of our care. Dark is the room and empty her chair. She has gone to wait for that home so fair. Gone like the seasons, that come and go, wreathing her grave in blossoms and snow. Cruel and cold is the black wind that blows. Sleep on dear mother, sleep on, thy toils are o'er. Well we have loved you, but God loved you more. He has called you to that bright, happy shore.
One by one we see the old pioneers leaving us. And the Lord is judging them as fast as they come, according to their faith. One by one they must give up their earthly possessions and scarcely be granted room in this world for their dead body to rest. Their accumulations are being absorbed by those who remain, and that often without due appreciation. But the good that such a one does remains. Friends and neighbors, churches and communities will sing them songs of praise. Yes, mothers are going to remember that good old lady from over the hill to their children and children's children. Yes, Grandma BECK will be remembered by many.
