MAQUOKETA — James W. “Jim” Watters, 57, of Maquoketa, died Friday at his home.

Burial will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery, rural Maquoketa.

He was born March 2, 1950, in Dubuque to Dell and Ruth Sinkey Watters. He married Sharlene Jaeger on June 21, 1969, in Missouri. He married Debra Fischer on March 17, 2001 in Nashua.

He attended Midland School through the 11th grade, and graduated from Maquoketa Community High School in 1969.

He worked at Armco Steel Company in Kansas City, Mo., for a short time. He then worked as a mill worker at Golden Sun Feeds in Maquoketa for more than 20 years.

He also volunteered as a reserve police officer for several years.

He was a charter member of the Dubuque Karate Club, and enjoyed volunteering his time at the annual Monmouth School Haunted House. He was an active Andrew Community School sports fan, and had volunteered his time for the Andrew Hawks, assisting as a scout.

Survivors include his wife; children, Penny (Randy) Maas of Dubuque and Adam (Jodi) Watters of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a grandson; a brother, Barry (Karen) Watters of Baldwin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, a James W. “Jim” Watters Memorial Fund has been established.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother a sister,, his mother-in-law and father-in-law and a stepson.
