Jackson Sentinel, Maquoketa, Iowa, Thursday, May 22, 1913
WOOD—Permelia Duell was born in Akron, Stark county, Ohio, Sept. 25, 1846. She came to Iowa with her parents in 1852 and settled near Preston, Iowa, where she lived until she was married to Mr. Ashbury Wood, March, 27 1864. She lived for over thirty-five years south of Monmouth. This union was blessed with eleven children five sons and six daughters all of whom grew to manhood and womanhood. She was converted and united with the Christian church when sixteen years of age and never transferred her membership. For the last ten years she lived just west of Maquoketa. She has been an invalid for a number of years, in fact suffered from a throat trouble from childhood, caused by the measles. The last six months she has been a constant though patient sufferer and much of the time was bedfast. She was lovingly cared for by her children until the end when she passed peacefully away on Thursday morning, May 15, 1913, aged 66 years, 7 months and 20 days. She will be sadly missed by her bereft husband and children. Besides the sorrowing husband, the eleven children, as follows survive: Sherman of Prague, Okla; Mrs. Lon Dodge, Chicago, Ill.; Sheridan, Paden, Okla.; Mrs. Letta Stanton, Baldwin, Iowa; Allie, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Mrs. Mae Willman, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Everett at home; Mrs. Pearl Adams, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Levi, De Smet, S. D.; Miss Ada at home; Mrs. Edna Simmons of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. All were home save one to attend the funeral services which were held on Saturday, May 17, at the home on West Platt street near Pinhook at eleven a. m., and sermon at the Monmouth M. E. church, where a large circle of friends gathered to pay last earthly tribute to the departed and burial in Monmouth cemetery, Rev. D. F. Boomershine officiating.
